WANT A GOOD LAUGH? READ THIS!!
TECHNICAL CALL PLACED TODAY, TO MY ISP, REGARDING MODEM ISSUES

Yesterday, I started having modem issues. I have 3 services, with my ISP. Internet, VOIP, and Digital HD TV. After a series, of calls, and intermittent, use of my services, and then, having to physically drive up the ISP ofc., today, I get home, to find out, I am still barely above dial up speed. With a top download speed of barely over 56K, there isnt much of anything I can do.
I place a call back to my ISP, and this is the call:
ISP: "can I help you"'
ME: "yes, you can, omg, Im soo upset, 2 days of this, and now, Im still at a crawl, my DL speed is a lttile above 56K, and, I pay for over 15 MB up."
ISP: "ok, lets take a look! Hmmm, well it is stating that you have 15MB up. What operating system do you use?"
ME: "I use Linux"
ISP:" ohhhh, I see, That is your problem. You use Linux, and that is a very old, outdated OS. Your computer has no way of recognizing the speed test!"
( I couldnt believe what I just heard)
ME:"OMG!!! Do you realize how ridiculous what you just said is? Not only do I have a top of the line OS, I use Ubuntu, as do 1/2 of your technicians! Your servers at your company are even run on Linux!!!"
ISP: "hello, hello, are you there? hello?" ( the tech realizing that I know what Im talking about, pretends not to hear me )
ME: "yes, Im here....( as I try to hold back a barrage of laughter, and cuss words, all at the same time)
ISP: "yes, we will have a tech out there to your house between the hours of 3:00 & 5:00 tomorrow."

I think this never really happened to you. First of all, I don't think the first question he would ask is 'What OS are you using', secondly, He is right, Linux is a very old operating system, You were being inspecific as well, If you said "I'm using SLS/Early Slack Linux" Then he's absolutely right, I don't think SLS even had support for PPPoE. Linux being 'top of the line' is rather unbased too, Linux has poor memory management and general Kernel code compared to BSD, Which unlike certain other OSes, Wasn't whipped up in a summer by a College student. Linux is used because it is much easier and has more 'hacker appeal' as in, People love the notion that some college graduate can stick it to the big man, rather than a bunch of computer science nerds that have been working on an Operating system since the 60's.

Something along those lines could have happened, But verbatim? I kinda went off on a tangent about how BSD > Linux, sorry about that.

Zephyr-The-ZephJun 28, 2007 10:13am
lol, I think, In times of Indian tech support, You need to bust out your inner Anonymous, "English motherfucker, You speak it?", I've don't think i've heard anyone say that to tech support, I think they would just hang up.

no they put you on hold...They even try to find a better speaker...They are nice just thick accent.

No, this wasnt "indian tech support" !!!! This was at my local ofc, here in Florida. But my point was, there is nothing that Linux, would have to do with my computer not being able to read a speed test? Come on now. So absurd, I wanted to fall over! The problem was, they accidentally downgraded my service, and the tech, was too inexperienced to just simply put in a few codes! And, Im Polish! His ethnicity, had nothing to do with it either! Argggghhh!!!
